What is inside the head?

Some of the body’s most important – and delicate – organs are in the head and neck area. The brain is the centre of operations for the body, and sits within the skull’s protective case of bone. The head also houses the eyes, ears, mouth, and nose – our main sense organs.

The area is served by a complex network of blood vessels and nerves. Blood supplies the fuel needed to power the muscles, nerves, and organs in this part of the body. Nerves transmit messages between the brain and the sense organs in the head, enabling us to see, hear, smell, and taste.

The control centre of the body is the brain. It processes thoughts and interprets information from our surroundings. The skull protects this vital organ and the body’s most important sensory organs. The neck supports the head, providing a communications highway between the brain and the body.
