Is life possible in underground caves?

Many strange animals live in the gloom of underground caves. Some of them were completely unknown until relatively recently when the science of speleology developed.

Speleology is the scientific study caves from all points of view. These include, amongst other things, the discovery and exploration of caves: the study of their geological and chemical problems; and a study of their animal life.

It is difficult to imagine how any living creature could exist in these conditions but despite this there are many cave-dwelling animals under the ground. Most of them are tiny animals which, because of the lack of light, have no positive colour. They are either very pale or even transparent.

Since there is no plant life in the caves they live in, theses little animals live on the flesh of other animals.
