What are the specialities of Yellowstone National Park?

Yellowstone is the first National Park of the United States, established on 1 March 1872. Some even argue that it was the first national park in the world. However, evidence suggests that the Bogd Khan Mountain National Park in Mongolia was established in 1778, almost a century earlier. Yellowstone is famous not just for its flora and fauna but also for the amazing display of various geological phenomena including geothermal forces. UNESCO declared Yellowstone as a biosphere reserve in 1976 and added it to the World Heritage Sites in 1978.

Grizzly bears, wolves, bison and wapitis are some of the inhabitants of Yellowstone. It is home to many rare and endangered species. It is one of the large remaining ecosystems in the northern temperate zone. It has been subjected to conservation efforts and studied in depth to understand wild-land ecosystems.
