What are the kidneys main jobs?

In your back, just below your ribs and on each side of your spine, are your kidneys. You have two kidneys. They are each about as big as your heart. They are shaped like large beans.

Kidneys do an important job for your body. They help keep your bloody clean.

Your blood takes wastes-things your body cannot use-away from your cells. On its way to your heart, the blood passes through your kidneys, and your kidneys take the waste materials out of the blood.

Your kidneys then get rid of this waste. They do this by making a liquid called urine. Urine leaves your kidneys through your tubes and travels to a urine storage tank, the bladder.

Your bladder is a stretchy bag made of thin sheets of muscle. When it is full, you feel as if you need to go to the toilet. When you do, the bladder squeezes the urine out of your body through a tube called the urethra.
