What is the difference between boys and girls?

All bodies work the same in many ways. But as you know, there are some differences between boys and girls. These differences helps make a new life begins.

Girls have two small organs called ovaries. The ovaries lie inside the body near the hips. They hold tiny eggs. When an egg leaves one of the ovaries, it may join with the sperm cell to start a new life. Below a girl’s bellybutton, there is another pear-shaped organ called a uterus. It is here that a woman’s baby grows. After about nine months the baby is ready to be born. It comes out through the vagina.

On the outside of their bodies, boys have a penis. Behind the penis is a soft sack of skin called a scrotum. Inside the scrotum are two testicles. The testicles make sperm cells. When a sperm cell joins with a female egg, a new life may begin.

Whether you are a girl or a boy, you may want to be a parent when you grow up. These organs will help make that possible.

The bodies of boys and girls change as they grow up to be men and women. But they don’t all change at the same time or the same speed. Some boys and girls change faster or begin changing sooner than others. For a while, they may look older and more grown-up. But the same kinds of changes happen for everyone in time.
