Massive changes have occurred in the world at certain points in the past. Sometimes, these changes affect a society, a nation or, in some cases, even the world. These turning points are known as revolutions.
Though tumultuous, revolutions often do not happen all of a sudden. Their causes and motives vary. However, they bring in a change in the fundamental organizational structure and existing power relations. Revolutions do not come easy; they call for change and an attempt for change is always faced with a lot of resistance. But change is necessary for the survival of people as a society.
The term revolution is of Latin origin and it means ‘turnaround’. It is often used to denote a huge political change. For instance, the American Revolution sought to overthrow the existing political order. Political changes, as we already know, are often accompanied by a lot of violence and bloodshed, sometimes even leading to civil wars. There are other revolutions too. You might have heard of events like the Industrial Revolution and Green Revolution.
