What do we know about the Boston Massacre?

1770 was a troublesome year in the history of America. Taxation and many other issues created tensions between the British soldiers posted in Boston and the people in the town.

On March 5, 1770, a large crowd gathered around a group of British soldiers. A brawl broke out between the civilians who gathered around and the British soldiers. Though there was no order to fire, the soldiers fired anyway, killing some civilians. The bullets hit eleven people of whom five died in the clash. They were Crispus Attucks, Samuel Gray, Patrick Carr, Samuel Maverick and James Caldwell. This event came to be known as the Boston Massacre.

If you visit Boston today, you will find a monument erected in memory of the people who died at the hands of those British soldiers during the Boston Massacre.
