Why is the French Revolution considered as the ‘Mother of all Revolutions’?

The French Revolution changed France forever; it marked the end of the tyranny of monarchy. The Revolution unified France and enhanced the power of the nation state. Feudalism was wiped out without a trace. Everyone enjoyed the right to free speech. The Napoleonic Code consolidated social order and contractual law; it was the first modern organized body of law governing France.

The Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars tore down the ancient structure of Europe, accelerated the advent of nationalism, and inaugurated the era of modern, total warfare. The French Revolution upheld the ideals of ‘Liberty, Equality and Fraternity’. The influence of these ideals was far reaching; it surely impacted world history.

Undoubtedly, the French Revolution had an extraordinary influence on the making of the modern world. It became the inspiration for several revolutions in the 19th and 20th centuries including the Russian Revolution.
