Russians had expressed their discontent of the social and political affairs in several ways since a very long time. This ranged from liberal rhetoric to strikes and even terrorist assassinations. The Revolution of 1905 was a turning point in the history of Russia. This event is also known as the First Russian Revolution.
Though there were several uprisings and rebellions before this, the Revolution of 1905 convinced Nicholas II about the need to replace autocracy with a constitutional monarchy.
The Revolution of 1905 proved that the government was outdated, unresponsive and widely unpopular. While the tsar managed to keep his rule, the events that followed resulted in the dissolution of the monarchy, execution of the imperial family, and creation of the Soviet Union by the Bolsheviks.
