Which are the major techniques introduced by Ambroise Pare?

Ambroise Pare was born in 1510 AD, in northwestern France. He is considered one of the greatest medieval surgeons. He also trained at ‘Hotel-Dieu’, France’s oldest hospital and gained much of his knowledge from observation and practical training.

He served as a surgeon in the French army on many military campaigns and demonstrated innovation in treating the wounded. In particular his use of egg yolk, rose oil and turpentine to heal gunshot wounds was very successful. He is often called a pioneer in surgical techniques and in battlefield medicine. In 1545, Pare wrote his first book, The Method of Curing Wounds Caused by Arquebus and Firearms, in French. This was a break in tradition as the traditional language of medicine was Latin. This was because he did not have a classical education unlike most of his peers. He served under four French kings and died in 1590 at the age of 80.
