Where is reindeer found?

Reindeer is a mammal part of the deer family. It lives in the Arctic tundra and damp forests of Greenland, Scandinavia, Russia, Alaska and Canada. It is also known as caribou.

Its body is covered with winter coat which provides insulation at the low outer temperatures. The colour of the fur ranges from dark to light brown. It has concave-shaped hooves to help walk in deep snow.

It is the only member of deer family where both males and female sport antlers. Its diet consists of herbs, ferns, mosses, grasses, shoots, fungi and leaves. Wolverines, bears, and even eagles are its predators. It is a social creature. They feed, travel and rest in groups called herds.
