Ensemble

Ensemble (pronounced as awn-sawm-bl) is a noun which means a group of things or actors or musicians considered as a whole. Ensemble actors or musicians regularly perform together. It could also mean a set of clothes chosen to harmonise when worn together.

Origin

It comes from French ensemblee, meaning “all the parts of a thing considered together.” It in turn comes from Late Latin insimul “at the same time.” Musical sense of “union of all parts in a performance” was first used in English in 1844.

Usage

It was an ensemble of differently-abled musicians.

The Trial of the Chicago 7 won the best ensemble cast in a motion picture.
