What are the meaning, origin and usage of the word consolidate?

Consolidate is the act of bringing together and uniting different parts (of something) into a whole. The verb also refers to strengthening or making something firm.

Origins:

The word consolidate’ has been derived from Latin words tom’ which means with together and solidare’ meaning to make solid. The root word ‘sol’ in solidare means whole’.

Usage:

1. The victory in the inter-school tournament was a result of the consolidated efforts of different teams from the school

 2. Sarita consolidated her position as the class topper for the fourth time in a row.

3. Students were provided with a consolidated marksheet of all the semesters at the end of the year.
