What is Streamus app?

Ever wanted to stream only the audio bit of a YouTube video? Streamus, a Chrome extension, turns the browser into a music player. Use the search button to look for a music video and the app returns the results with a small thumbnail of the video; click on the Play button next to the video to stream it as a song. You can also just type “Streamus” into Chrome’s Omnibar (the fancy name for Chrome’s all-in-one address bar/search box), hit tab (or space) and type the name of the song you’re looking for. Streamus instantly returns a dropdown with YouTube results; click one and the audio starts playing in the background. Streamus supports playlists, but you will have to create one in YouTube and copy the link to the extension. The app also has an integrated radio feature.

On July 13, 2015, after four months of intense negotiation, Sean announced that due to difficulty meeting YouTube’s API guidelines, the extension would be removed from the Chrome Web Store the following day. The reason and the entire email conversation with the YouTube team was made public by the author through his extension app.
