Ratan Tata joins Instagram, says ‘I made it to the Gram!’

“I made it to the Gram!” says industrialist Ratan Tata’s Instagram bio. “I don’t know about breaking the internet, but I am so excited to join all of you on Instagram! After a long absence from public life, I look forward to exchanging stories and creating something special with such a diverse community,” said Tata after announcing his debut on Instagram. The 81-year-old industrialist who has 7.7 million followers on Twitter, currently has 550,000 followers on Instagram. One of his posts is a tribute to his late dog, Tito, and to animal lovers “who strive for the welfare of the voiceless”.

Tata joining Instagram can pave the way for other Indian corporate leaders who have mostly preferred Twitter to connect with the masses. Many Indian industrialists, politicians and market veterans often express their opinions and reach out to people via the micro-blogging platform.

JSW Group chairman and managing director Sajjan Jindal, Mahindra Group chairman Anand Mahindra and Kotak Mahindra Bank chief executive Uday Kotak are some influential names from the corporate sector on Twitter. Besides veterans, there are new-age entrepreneurs—founder and chief executive of Oyo Rooms Ritesh Agarwal, co-founder and executive chairman Flipkart Sachin Bansal and founder and chief executive Zomato Deepinder Goyal—on Twitter.
