What is Photoscan app?

If you want to digitize old printed photos there’s no need to buy a scanner. Simply use the camera in your phone and the PhotoScan app from Google. The app doesn’t just take a picture of a picture, but uses specialized algorithms to detect edges, correct perspective, rotate as needed, and get rid of glare. The app also integrates with Google Photos for easy backup, search, manual enhancement and face recognition. Free for iOS and Android.

First, download PhotoScan from Apple’s App Store for your iPhone or from Google Play for Android. Position the photo or document you want to scan. Open PhotoScan and position the file within the frame. When the item is positioned properly, tap the shutter button.

There is one limitation to keep in mind with scanning photos via a mobile app like PhotoScan. The quality is not comparable with what you would get by using a desktop scanner with your computer. Rather, an app like this comes into play if you want a quick and convenient way to scan an item or you don’t have access to a desktop scanner.
