We all need balance in our lives. Apparently so cutlery!

What you need:

  • Three glass soda bottles
  • Three table knives
  • A glass Water

What to do:

1. Place the three bottles in a triangle formation at an equal distance from each other. The bottles need to be close enough so that each knife can reach from a bottles mouth to the centre triangle of the

2. Rest the handle of each knife on the mouth of each bottle. The other end of the knives should meet in the middle of the triangle interweave them as shown in the picture

3. Place the glass on top of the knives where they intersect

4. Pour water into the glass

What happens:

The glass does not fall even after being filled.

Why?

The secret lies in the weave of the knives. Gravity is acting on the knives but each of them is supported by the other in the weave pattern. This allows the knives to stay lifted.

When you place a glass on the intersection and add water to it, the weight of the glass pushes down. Still the weaving of the knives holds up balancing out all the forces. This allows the glass stay stable even in its precarious position.
