An adjective, egregious means shockingly bad, glaring or reprehensible

 Origin:

The term egregious is derived from the Latin word egregius, meaning “outstanding” or “eminent from the Latin roots ex (out) + greg (flock) literally meaning “standing out from the flock.” Though it has been in use since the 1530s, its meaning changed over time. It was originally used to describe someone of a remarkably good quality who stood out from the rest. The term acquired a negative sense in the late 16th Century to mean something or someone extremely bad and it is the only sense that has survived to this day.

Usage:

It was an egregious blunder. An egregious error is so bad that it might not be pardonable.
