Dignify

The verb has two similar meanings. It is used to make somebody or something seem impressive, and to make something appear important even though it isn’t.

Origin

The word finds its origin in late Middle English, from Old French dignefier, from Late Latin dignificare, from Latin dignus, meaning worthy.

Usage

Tara chose not to dignify the journalist’s comment by reacting to it.
