Jaunt
Meaning:
Jaunt means a short trip. It is mostly an excursion undertaken for pleasure. It can be used as a noun and a verb.
Origin:
A word of unknown origin, jaunt originally had a deprecatory or uncomplimentary meaning. Its usage in the late 16th Century meant “a troublesome journey.” Early senses included “tiring a horse out by riding it up and down”. The positive sense of “a short, pleasure trip” dates from the mid 17th century.
Usage:
Whenever she comes to Chennai, she embarks on a weekend jaunt.
They went jaunting through Mahabalipuram.
