Mithali Raj becomes second woman to score 10,000 international cricket runs

On March 12, 2021, Mithali Raj became the first Indian batter, and only the second woman ever, to aggregate over 10,000 international runs in women’s cricket. She achieved the milestone with a flicked boundary during her knock of 36 in the third ODI against South Africa at Lucknow.

A couple of days later, on March 14, Mithali reached another milestone during her knock of 45 as she became the first woman batter to score 7,000 ODI runs.

By July, Mithali became the highest run scorer in women’s international cricket. She went past the mark of 10,273 runs held by England’s Charlotte Edwards to have the highest aggregate in women’s international cricket.

Mithali is second only to Charlotte Edwards in terms of the overall leading run-scorer in women’s international cricketer. Edwards, a former England cricketer, has scored 10207 runs from 309 matches with 67 half-centuries and 13 hundreds. Mithali, who has 75 fifties and eight centuries, is likely to overtake Edwards in the near future.
