Milwaukee Bucks wins maiden NBA title in 50 years

The 2020-21 season of the NBA was the 75th season of the competition. The ongoing pandemic reduced the regular season to 72 games. The pandemic also meant that the off-season- the time between the end of the previous season and the start of this one-was the shortest in the league’s history at just 72 days.

The Milwaukee Bucks won their first title in 50 years, having previously taken the title in 1971. They finished third in the Eastern Conference behind the Philadelphia 76ers and Brooklyn Nets with a 46-26 win-loss record. While the Bucks blitzed through the first round of the play-offs with a 4-0 win over Miami Heat they were taken the distance in the Eastern Conference semi-final against Brooklyn Nets, which they won 4-3.

By defeating Atlanta Hawks 4-2 in the Eastern Conference final, they won the conference title and made their way to the NBA Finals against Western Conference champions Phoenix Suns. Giannis Antetokounmpo, who was the side’s superstar, led them to a 4-2 victory against the Suns in the final in July to help the Bucks win the title. Antetokounmpo was named the NBA Finals MVP.
