How does one become a lecturer or a professor (e.g. of chemistry) of a renowned university on a global scale? What are the requirements and degrees? I am a 10+2 student and I am really confused about what I should do?
To become a lecturer, one should have at least a master’s degree and should clear National Eligibility Test (NET) This test is for the appointment of lecturers. This test is conducted by the University Grants Commission (UGC) twice a year usually in the months of June and December.
Many states also hold the State Level Eligibility Test (SLET) which is on the pattern of NET and duly accredited by the UGC. Those who have cleared the NET are generally exempted from appearing in the state-level tests.
After completing 10+2, go for graduation followed by post graduation in the subject of your choice. Once you clear NET, you’ll be appointed as a lecturer. Later, after promotions, you’ll be appointed as professor.
