Origin: Dungarees is derived from the name of the fabric the garment is made from – dungaree, a historical term for an Indian coarse thick Calico cloth. The word is possibly derived from Dongri, a dockside village near Bombay (now Mumbai). The name of the fabric is said to have been in use since the early 17th Century.
