Let the dogs bark

I had a friends’ circle in school of which I am no more a part of because of the snobbish behaviour of my so-called friends. Their gossip and passing comments on others irritated me and when I paid no interest they said I was ignoring them. Now they are behind me, passing comments and have given me a weird nickname. They try to stop others from talking to me but are unsuccessful. Everyone tells me to let the dogs bark but I also have to concentrate on my studies and co-curricular activities. I can’t directly tell them to stop it because they’ll start a fight which I do not want because it may cause harm to them as I may get aggressive as well. And if I tell a teacher they might get rusticated as I had talked to the principal, last year, about the same problem. They have humiliated a student before and were in great trouble. I don’t want to put them in any trouble as they were my friends and I don’t want to be a troublemaker for anyone. Shall I continue just ignoring them?

Dear Aprajita, if you are not comfortable with friends who have a “snobbish behaviour” and enjoy gossiping and “passing comments on others”, ignore them and start building new relationships with better friends of your choice. You should also concentrate on your studies and co-curricular activities. Each one is responsible for one’s own behaviour.
