My friends tell me to leave her

I am a 16-year-old boy. I am in love with a girl who is 3 years older than me whom I met at a wedding. From the beginning I’ve had feelings for her. One day I proposed to her but she said nothing. After some days she said ‘yes’ but my friends discouraged me saying that she is older than me and tell me to leave her. But I can’t do this to her; I love her. What I should do?

Dear , at your age a gap of 3 years has more implications at the emotional and psychological levels compared to a more advanced age. What you are now experiencing are just “feelings”. True love is not built on feelings, but on a mature decision on both sides to enter into a faithful and committed relationship. This is not possible at the age of 16. Your friends may be right in their advice.
