What is the meaning, origin, and usage of the word ‘Frenetic’?

Meaning: The word frenetic corresponds to the nature of being fast and energetic in a rather wild and uncontrolled manner.

Origin : While this is the meaning now attributed to the word, the original meaning it was used for was insanity. In use from late in the 14th Century, the word is derived from the Old French frenetike meaning “mad, crazy” from Latin phreniticus delirious”, which is an alteration of Greek phrenitikos.

This word, which means frenzy, insanity”, can be broken down into phren for “mind. reason” and the suffix  itis for “inflammation”.

 As time went by the seriousness of the word was downgraded and it is used for hectic activity these days.

Usage : The frenetic encounter between the two top sides of the league finished as a draw in the end.
