How was Vladimir Lenin received, on his return from exile?

Russia was in a jubilant mood as the February revolution forced the tsar out of power. It was into this setting that Vladimir Lenin returned, after years of forced exile. The tsarist regime had exiled this leader of the Bolsheviks in 1907, and he was able to return when the Provisional Government came to power. He took a train from Zurich, Switzerland, and reached Finlyandsky Vokzal in Finland on 16th April, 1917. In those days, Finland was under Russia’s control. He was given a huge welcome at the station, with tens of thousands of workers and soldiers waving red flags. Lenin gave a short speech standing on top of a car. In a later speech he strongly criticized the Provisional Government saying it had made no efforts to give food and land to people, and it had not got the country out of the disastrous war. Lenin’s attack on the Provisional Government came as a shock to many. But eventually, more and more people agreed with his arguments.
