WHAT IS THE MEANING, ORIGIN, AND USAGE OF THE WORD ‘PERIPATETIC’?

Meaning : This adjective refers to the aspect of travelling around to different places, usually due to work in more than one place.

Origin : From Old French word perypatetique, and directly from the Medieval Latin word peripateticus, meaning “pertaining to the disciples or philosophy of Aristotle”. Aristotle’s custom was to teach while strolling through the Lyceum, a school in Athens. Also from Greek peripatetikos, meaning “given to walking about” (especially while teaching), which derives from the word peripatein “walk up and down, walk about.

Example: She was a peripatetic architect-professor for most of her life.
