Meaning: This word is an adjective, and refers to anything smelling strongly of something or having qualities (especially smells) that make you think of something else.

Origin: Said to have been in use in English since the 14th and 15th Centuries, is has its origins in the Latin word redolens, the present participle of redolere, meaning to emit odour.

Example: The air around was redolent with the scent of frangipani.
