Why is Coonoor a major tourist attraction?

               Coonoor is one of the most beautiful hill stations you will come across in the country. At a distance of 18 km from Ooty, Coonoor is a lovely hill station, known for its production of Nilgiri tea.

               Coonoor is located at an altitude of 1,850 metres above sea level. It is the second largest hill station in the Nilgiri hills after Ooty. It is an ideal base for a number of trekking expeditions leading into the Nilgiris.

               Sim’s Park is an important sightseeing destination in Coonoor. This botanical gar-den houses more than 1000 species of different plants and trees which are scattered all over the sprawling park providing a unique view. The botanical garden is partly developed in the Japanese style, and derived its name from J. D. Sim, the secretary of the Madras Club in 1874. The key attraction of the park is the annual fruit and vegetable show, held in May.

               Dolphin’s Nose Viewpoint is 10 km from Coonoor and is known to provide the most panoramic view of the Nilgiri Hills and Catherine Falls.
