Why do people hack computers?

Because they think it’s fun, because they can, or because they want to commit cyber crime, the fastest-growing kind of crime. Hackers try to gain unauthorized access to the secret regions of the Internet: the computers of people, corporations, or governments. Their most valuable possession isn’t money or gadgets or free video games. It’s information! Hackers break into private networks to swipe secret info, which they can then sell or use for all sorts of dastardly purposes.

Another reason to hack a system is to steal information or money. A large portion of hacking attempts fall into this category. Banks and large companies are common targets for hacking jobs, but sometimes smaller companies or even a specific person’s computer are targeted, as well.

There are also some hackers, including hacking groups; that target a company to disrupt business, create chaos and just be a nuisance. These groups often be trying to make a statement with their hacking, demonstrate security inadequacies, or show general disapproval for the business itself.
