Why can camels survive so long without drinking water?

If you think the secret to a camel’s success in the desert lies in ts humps, you’re right. If you think those humps are flush with fresh water like gurgling water coolers, you’re wrong. A camel’s humps are filled with fat – enough fat to supply the animal with energy and hydration for long hauls though the desert. Camels can also adjust their body temperature to deal with the baking sun, and their brains have a sort of natural air-conditioning. But it’s really the humps that keep them going (plus the scant bit of moisture get from nibbling on desert plants).
