When did people start cooking meat?

Early people did not cook their food. Whatever they were able to find in nature, they gathered up and ate raw. And this was simply because they had no way of cooking their food, they didn’t know how to make fire. Even when they did learn about fire, they only used it for warmth and to frighten away wild animals. Some of the animals they killed may have fallen into the glowing embers. Because it smelt good they tasted it and discovered that their food would be improved by cooking. So early people, many thousands of years ago, worked out the two main methods of cooking: by baking or roasting in dry heat, or by boiling in moist heat.

Fact File:

Cooking nowadays is done either by gas or electricity on very modern stoves. The modern cook uses many different types of cooking pots.
