What do we know about Subhash Chandra Bose’s earlier years?

Subhash Chandra Bose was a patriot right from his earliest years. He was a brilliant student who excelled at his studies, but was asked to leave Presidency College in Calcutta for assaulting a professor who made anti-India comments. He later cracked the civil services examination after his graduation, and secured a job with the civil service department, but quit because he did not want to work under the British.

After leaving a highly desirable and lucrative job, Bose joined the Indian National Congress to join in the freedom struggle. His mentor was Chittaranjan Das who stoked the fire of nationalism in the heart of young Subhash Chandra Bose.

Bose started the newspaper ‘Swaraj’ and also rose to the position of the editor of the newspaper, ‘Forward’, founded by Chittaranjan Das. Bose became a leader of national stature, and agreed to accept nomination as Congress President. He later resigned from the position as he did not agree with Gandhiji’s idea that freedom could be won by non-violence. Though he parted ways with the Congress, Subhash Chandra Bose remained steadfast in his dream of a free India, and never gave up fighting for this cause.
